And you wonder why...

Mike Woodward, President of HTC North America, speaking about the Samsung Galaxy S4:

We’re pleased to see no innovation in the design itself

This would explain why HTC has been losing money and market share hand over fist the last few years. Innovation is not changing the way a device looks. It’s changing the way people use it.

iPhones have looked basically the same since 2007, but every year Apple changes the way people can use them. Samsung is doing the same with the Galaxy line, and I think it’s a good move.

The Fixer

Eddy Cue, the new sheriff in Apple Town.

Apple Inc. (AAPL) has fired the manager responsible for its troubled mapping software, seeking to win back the trust of users disappointed after the program debuted in September, according to people familiar with the move.

James Bond is a Time Lord.

If you are a 007 fan, as I am, and a Dr. Who fan, as I am, Alan Gratz has something you need to hear.

One Bond. Many incarnations. James Bond is a Time Lord.

I think we can all agree this is the only logical analysis.

Douche Bag

Is “douche bag” one word or two? Either way, Paul Ryan fits the bill.

Ryan had stopped by the soup kitchen for about 15 minutes on his way to the airport after his Saturday morning town hall in Youngstown. By the time he arrived, the food had already been served, the patrons had left, and the hall had been cleaned.

Religious Freedom?

Valerie Hodges, a Republican State Representative from Louisiana, apparently thinks “religion” means “Christianity”. Someone should tweet her that there are lots of religions.

She was all for Gov. Jindal’s vouchers for religious or private education, until she found out the vouchers could be used for Muslim schools as well.

I do not support using public funds for teaching Islam anywhere here in Louisiana.

Some people are so self-centered that they don’t even notice the world is revolving around them.

Wait… Scratch that, reverse it.

Brand Recognition From A 5 Year Old

Two and a half minutes of adorable. A 5 year old’s take on brand recognition. She recognizes what almost every logo is, such as the “Eye” of CBS, but doesn’t know what they stand for.

She recognizes, by name, the following brands:

  • Disney
  • Apple
  • GE (“that’s where my grandpa works”)
  • McDonalds
  • Nike

She recognizes as correct products, but not by name:

  • Pepsi
  • KFC
  • Starbucks
  • BP
  • Mercedes (“on a car, looks like a peace sign!")
  • Panera
  • Xbox (“that’s what you use to control the TV at Ryan’s house”)

My favorite quote:

That is a parade elephant

If she only knew…

Happy Birthday, Macintosh!

The Macintosh or Mac, is a series of personal computers (PC) designed, developed, and marketed by Apple Inc The first Macintosh was introduced by Apple’s then-chairman Steve Jobs on January 24, 1984; it was the first commercially successful personal computer to feature a mouse and a graphical user interface rather than a command-line interface

I know Macs have been my computer of choice since the beginning. Like many, I strayed into the Windows world during the early 90’s when Macs were damn near unusable, especially in “real world” jobs. Since OS X was released in 2002, I was a part-time Mac user. When the iPhone came out in 2007, I switched to Mac excluusively.

Except when I’m on my iPad…
